When did you launch?

I am currently in the process of launching the ‘Mothers of Innovation’ website to sell the best products for families by Mumpreneurs; it is a staged launch from an informative holding page with questionnaire through to a fully populated site.

How did you go about getting started?

I first made a ‘Rocking Hood’, an adaptable (and cute) baby poncho, after I could not buy anything to fit our needs. I was interested in taking it further but I was not ready to invest in stock and I could not find an appropriate outlet. Redundancy was the catalyst to set up the website that would have helped; a site that I would like to buy from and one that would be a great resource for me and fellow Mumpreneurs.The business plan came together easily using forms from  HSBC and Barclays and was fine tuned with help from Business Link. After that I just needed to get stuck in!

Working out where to focus my resources and investing in great design. The best bit of advice was to do an on-line survey with wwwSurveymonkey.com

(although I have since been told that Zoomerang offer an even better service.)

What has been your biggest challenge so far? How have you dealt with it?

The biggest challenge has been staying motivated when facing small knock backs, so I  endeavour to appreciate all advice – even criticism.

How do you fit in work with the family?

I am still paying for nursery fees three days a week – and then I seem to be working very long hours while she is asleep. Paying the nursery before the site starts to earn is really pushing our finances, but essential.

What advice would you give to someone else wanting to work in this area?

Do as much research as you can in advance – as everything will take twice as long as you could ever imagine.
