Netmums Mum of the Year News
Cancer campaigner Suzanne Fernando, who featured on this blog earlier this year was one of the regional finalists in the Netmums Mum of the Year awards.
She says, “My day in London began at Cancer Research UK headquarters where I met with the teams and discussed the new policy on reducing the age of screening and how we can raise more awareness of Cervical Cancer.
“Afterwards I was driven to No.10 Downing Street where I met up with my local MP Katy Clark to celebrate ‘International Women’s Day’. We enjoyed a fantastic evening with a whole host of Inspirational Women, MP’s and friends at Cancer Research UK.
“We all enjoyed a whole evening with a champagne reception hosted by The Prime Minister and his wife Sarah Brown. Later on in the evening I had some pictures taken for the official photo shoot and we then had a chance to discuss introducing a Cervical Cancer Awareness campaign and I presented the Prime Minister with the new policy on screening.
“The meeting went very well and I am very optimistic about the future. Afterwards Katy Clark MP invited me along to the House of Commons along with Mary Ryan (Patient Liason Manager, Cancer Research UK ) for a guided tour, meal and drinks.”
