My DS’s birthday is the 1st of November, ideal, you would think for a bonfire party, fireworks etc. His older sister thinks so for sure. But J is only 4 and last year found fireworks far to overwhelming. This year, instead, we’re trying Chinese Lanterns.
At the end of J’s birthday tea we went out to the beach with the lanterns. We had a few qualms that we were lighting the wrong part, worried that the whole thing would go up in flames, but we got it right. Each lantern filled with hot air in around 30 seconds then took off across the darkening sky. It was amazing watching them float gently higher and higher, well beyond a toddlers concetration span, and a lovely way to finsih the party.
