Mumpreneur News: Erica of Little Mummy
This time last year I mentioned Erica of LittleMummy and her plans for home business success in 2009. Here you can read how she has got on. She writes:
At the beginning of 2009 I had the target of earning £500 a month online. Today I’m here to update you on my progress.
Let me start by saying that it’s been an eventful year, in a good and bad way. I started out in January investigating ways to earn money online. I learned that I was really interested in email list building, marketing and my entrepreneurial spirit grew stronger. My progress was hampered in the first part of the year when we suffered two miscarriages, multiple streams of income were the last thing on my mind.
In the midst of all of this I was invited to Disney to do a review for my blog littlemummy.com, I was absolutely thrilled to become one of the ‘Disney 7′, we were treated to five days of luxury and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. I was brought back to earth a few days later when I miscarried for the second time. The summer was a bit of a haze, my blogging was a bit patchy but I noticed that I was starting to receive a lot more PR pitches and I enjoyed an all expenses paid trip to Bunchew House with my family to do a review for Have a Lovely Time blog.
As Autumn arrived mentally I was getting myself back together, I enrolled on an Open University course to complete my HNC in Business Studies and my blog was going from strength to strength. I was receiving pitches everyday and new parcels arrived weekly with various products including a Nintendo Wii, a ton of Disney DVD’s, a Dyson and a Wiki Digital Video Camera.
In October myself and four other bloggers were invited to a Spanish theme park to do a review, and the day after landing home I was driving to Butlins to do a review there.
In November I was voted one of the Top Ten most influential mummy bloggers in the UK. I also applied to do a degree in Entrepreneurship & Marketing.
In December I finally decided to bite the bullet and launch something I’ve had in the pipeline for two years. The Mum Blogger E-course was born, a free e-course helping beginners learn the ropes of blogging. It’s still very much a work in progress but looks to be a 35 week course broken down into three sections, beginner, intermediate and advanced. The course is receiving a lot of positive feedback and has attracted over 140 members in just over two weeks. A couple of days ago I launched my first product to sell, a workbook of the beginners section of the course, ten lessons compiled into a downloadable PDF with twenty five tasks to help you through the process. The 35 page workbook is selling for £8.99.
Multiple Income Streams
So what about these multiple income streams? Well this month my paypal has seen payments from my ebook, payments from a bit of freelance writing I do and a payment from multimedia content that I display on my blog. I’m still awaiting a payment from the banner ads I run. If I receive that in December I will have earned over £500.
2010
It’s great to be almost reaching my target but I have no intentions on stopping there. I’m planning on a very busy 2010. I have to complete two more sections of the course and produce two more accompanying workbooks. Beyond that I have ideas for two more blogs and then I’d like to find a partner to produce the ‘big project’ I have in my head
I’m not sure if it will all work out but I feel the most driven I’ve ever felt and I’ve never been so sure about being able to provide great products and make good money online.
£1000 a month would be a good target for December 2010, given that I’m still only working part-time! I’ll report back
