Meet Cecilia and the MummyMug: a Swedish hot drink safety solution, coming on the UK market in 2010

When Swedish Cecilia Thorfinn came to the Netherlands in 2007, she had just left a successful career as an international diplomat in Brussels, where she had lived for ten years. Her Dutch husband had just been elected Member of Parliament and together with their daughter Eleonore, then 1,5, they moved to The Hague.

Cecilia decided to take the opportunity to start a new career and make something out of her business idea, the MummyMug. When she had been on maternity leave with Eleonore, she had, as most parents are, been afraid of spilling her tea or coffee on her baby and causing a scalding burn. Realizing that there was no product in the market to help her deal with this problem, the idea for the MummyMug had gradually taken shape. It had to be a smart and stylish coffee/tea mug with a self-closing lid, that would minimize the risk of spills and make it possible to enjoy a safe coffee break also with children around. She also knew from the start that she wanted to manufacture the MummyMug in Sweden, to be sure she would deliver a top quality safety concept to the market.

Now, three years later, after lots of hard work and many new experiences, encounters and efforts, the MummyMug is finally a reality. Within in a few months’ time, the MummyMug will be launched on several European markets, including in the UK.

Until the MummyMug hits the shops, Cecilia is now spending most of her time on the internet and has started blogging intensively on www.mummymug.com. She does not just want to sell her product on the site: she wants to plunge into the social media and reach out to mothers who surf the internet for information, community and insight. “I am simply a mother myself”, says Cecilia “As a mother and as the inventor of the MummyMug, I want to listen, learn and contribute, to make sure I provide other mothers out there with a product that they really need.”
