Would you like flexible work space near you? Tell Third Door!

23 September 2011 No Comment

Shazia Mustafa founded London-based Third Door last year to combine workspace for freelancers and self employed parents with on-site childcare, and has received over 30 requests from parents across the country asking for a Third Door branch to be opened in their area. The majority of requests have come from North Londoners and those in the Home Counties, with requests coming in from Scotland, Northern England and the Midlands too.

“We have been inundated with new membership requests recently as parents look for a solution that will help them juggle work and childcare after the summer break,” explains Shazia Mustafa, founder of Third Door. “We are currently looking at locations for our next Third Door site and are also investigating the franchising model to help us roll out the Third Door concept to other parts of the country to meet demand.”

She believes there are two real drivers of this growth. “Since the start of 2010, there have been a record number of people starting up their own businesses. People who have lost their jobs due to the recession are setting up on their own and turning to flexible workspaces like ours which they can use as much or as little as they like. At the same time, an increasing number of parents are entitled to ask for flexible work, including having the option to work remotely.

“With rail fares expected to increase by 8% in January and childcare costs rising faster than salaries, it is becoming too expensive for many parents to go to work. Our business model enables parents to work at a location close to their home, cutting down on travel costs, while their children are looked after on-site. They can use both our open plan workspace and our OFSTED registered nursery when they need it, cutting down on rigid office rentals and fixed childcare fees.”

Third Door’s innovative concept has already won two awards and the company is a finalist in the Nursery World Awards 2011. The company is situated in Putney, South West London, and consists of two floors: an open-plan workspace with wifi upstairs, including meeting rooms, printing facilities and a lounge area for networking; and an OFSTED registered nursery downstairs catering for children aged three months to eight years. The company also runs networking events to help working parents meet like-minded individuals.
