Days out in Sussex: Sharnfold Farm

We’ve just had a fun morning at Sharnfold Farm near Eastbourne. I’d recommend it for anyone with kids looking for a bot of fresh air, and this week you can also do pumpkin carving and take part in a special witchy farm trail.

We arrived around 10am, which was a good time to pick out  our pumpkins and start carving! The farm staff were on hand to help with tricky bits, and supply child friendly cutters and scoops. D and K were pleased with the pumpkins they chose to decorate … J decided not to do one, but did the worksheet puzzles instead. You pay for the pumpkin plus £3 per child to go round the trail and find witches, spot letters and then fill in your answers to enter into a competition.

In the middle of this we took some time out in the farm cafe for bacon or sausage sandwiches. The cafe is small and busy, so the food took a little while, but my sausages were packed with flavour and well worth the wait. Dh is a bit of a bacon sarnie connoisseur and gave it a ‘Very Good!’

We also stocked up on some fresh farm grown corn on the cob, cheese scones made on the farm, Ringden Farm juice, gourmet popping corn and Cook meals in the farm shop .

You can go round the farm trail and play in the play area free of charge most days – the £3 charge was only for the special Halloween activities. I’d definitely take the kids back on a sunny day. And coming up, there’s going to be Santa’s Grotto from 1st December.
