Why Mums Make a Difference

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Do you know any mum who isn’t striving her hardest to make life better for her family? Running Family Friendly Working I am constantly inspired by the women we profile who are combining work and family, and often pushing the boundaries to do so. Yet I know that lots of mums feel like they aren’t doing enough.

Today I’ve run 4 loads of washing through the machine, while working too. I was reading Alli at Motivating Mum’s blog this week, where she lists all the things she does in a day. Before writing her list Alli felt that she wasn’t doing enough, and I think that’s a feeling we all know. If this is how you feel, why not write down your own list?

Media Op: Women Business Owners Needed

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Here’s a media request for anyone who would like to see their business in a book. There’s no guarantees on inclusion, but it is worth getting in touch if you fit the bill:

“I have been commissioned by How to books to write a book on women starting up in business. This is at the freelance or micro level, and I would like to gather some suitable case studies:

“Over the range I need diversity in geography, background, type of business, homeworking, getting (small) premises, employing one or two people, franchisees etc. I would send a questionnaire about how they started up, motivation, fears, challenges and so on. It would take about 30 minutes to complete and they would have a couple of weeks to do this.”

If you’d like to help, email sandra.jhewett@btopenworld.com

Monday, July 6th, 2009

How do you keep your kids your occupied in school holidays – £20 for your tip

Judy Yorke is working on a feature for a national newspaper about ways to keep children entertained during the long summer holiday. It’s about things to do eg games in the park or activities at home rather than places to go. She says, “We’re looking for  mums to tell us the fun things their kids have got up to, in the hope of giving other mums ideas! Please email me with suggestions of the things your kids have done. We’ll need your full name, age and where you’re from, plus the first names and ages of your children. If your tip is selected I’ll ask you for a photo of you with them, and you will be paid £20 after publication.”

Media Op: Toy Testers Needed

Monday, July 6th, 2009

The Talking Tots Great Toy Guide is published every Christmas, and includes independent advice and reviews of the best educational toys available in the UK, along with exclusive discounts, special offers and competitions. It’s distributed nationwide through Talking Tots classes, as well as being published online on various parenting websites and blogs.

This year, we’d like a family to help us test out some of our short-listed toys. So if you’re in the UK and would like to try out some new toys with your kids this summer, just leave a comment on this post or email us, telling us about your favourite toy for pre-schoolers, together with information on your children’s ages.

If you represent a toy retailer or a company that provides goods/services to families, and you’d like to nominate a toy for inclusion in the guide, or find out more about advertising and sponsorship opportunities, get in touch here.
