Channel 4 is producing a three-part documentary series about dads’ important role in bringing up children – and the producers are looking for men who could potentially benefit from building new skills and confidence.

The documentaries will follow four men as they undertake work experience in a busy London nursery for three weeks. Under the careful and constant supervision of trained nursery workers, the men will learn about the different facets of early years care and development by working with children aged 3 months to 4 years.

Through encouraging men to undertake a role in childcare, the programme makers will also explore the participants’ relationships with their own children, and the impact this has on their families. They have assured us that the series will be made with intelligence and sensitivity, and will always prioritise the needs and welfare of children first and foremost. The series has been discussed with child welfare and childcare organisations including the National Day Nurseries Association, the Daycare Trust and the Preschool Learning Alliance, as well as the Fatherhood Institute.

Do you know any dads who would like to take part?

The programme makers welcome responses from any fathers who might like to take part. They are particularly interested in including the experiences of both teenage and separated fathers in the series.

If you know of any dads who might fit the bill, please ask them to email Elena Mourey or call her on 0207 067 4825; or try her colleague Zyreeta Abadji on 0207 067 4848. And please forward this email to any other services you know who might reach such dads!

Running Family Friendly Working I am constantly inspired by the women we profile who are combining work and family, and often pushing the boundaries to do so. Yet I know that lots of mums feel like they aren’t doing enough.

Today I’ve run 4 loads of washing through the machine, while working too. I was reading Alli at Motivating Mum’s blog this week, where she lists all the things she does in a day. Before writing her list Alli felt that she wasn’t doing enough, and I think that’s a feeling we all know. If this is how you feel, why not write down your own list?

And it sometimes seems like everyone else is ‘doing it all’ and ‘having it all’ when you are struggling. The media often doesn’t help with this, presenting images of shining perfect women. It is great to see publications like essentials really trying to raise the profile of real women as part of their magazine. If you want to help the cause of ‘real women’, and maybe feature in essentials, spread the word about their campaign, below.
