Family Friendly and Flexible working – the new norm?

Recent research into attitudes to working mothers suggests it is time businesses started to embrace flexible working.

Recently, deputy prime minster Nick Clegg criticised Britain’s ‘Edwardian’ system of parental leave for working mothers and fathers. He said it was based on a ‘view of life in which mothers stay at home’. Sadly, it seems that too many employers share that view.

Flexible working works

“A cynic is a man who when he smell flowers, looks for a coffin”.
Oh, the more I travel, the more I realise that the Brits can be cynical. And the longer I run a business which is committed to ‘life-friendly working plans’ the more I come into contact with grumpy cynics who refuse to believe it can work. But please, let me tell you, in no uncertain terms. A flexible working policy for a company can deliver enormous benefits. It does for us.

Paternity Leave: Is it Working for You and Your Family?

Reform maternity and paternity pay, says FSB

FSB launches new flexible working report proposing major reforms to childcare and maternity leave
The Government must reform statutory maternity and paternity pay to give small businesses certainty over employee’s family leave, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) said in a new report.
Under current rules, women are allowed to take 52 weeks leave, 39 weeks of these are paid on statutory maternity pay, and men can take two weeks paid paternity leave. Yet, while many women benefit from the full length of maternity leave in the UK, 37 per cent of …
