Mumpreneur Profile: Kirsten of Life Work Life

Name of Business:

Your Name and Age: I am Kirsten Hemingway and 42 – but there are 4 people involved with the site – they are shy though

Tell us about your family

I have three children – Heather aged 10, Tom aged 8 and Ben who will be 7 at the end of the month. I am nearly divorced.

What did you do before coming up with your business idea and how was it making the transition? I ran and still run a company called the Hemingway Corporation – Hemingway Corporation implements changes in all types of organisations all round the world so we have a very flexible team.

When did you launch? – March 2008 was our Beta launch – our latest update was completed at the beginning of August

How did you get started? We came together as a team and started with an idea I had and we have been working on it ever since.

What research did you do before launching? Mainly research about the potential market and how recruitment worked

How have you funded the business? With our own time and money.

How do you promote your business? What has worked best? The best thing was winning the Catalyst award in 2008 – that was the biggest boost for us. Other than that through our newsetters, PR, and cold calling

What has worked well about your business? The fact that we are all flexible workers and can do other things while we grow LifeWorklife.

What has been your biggest challenge so far? How have you dealt with it? The recession and cuts in companies trying to recruit.

How do you fit in work with the family? I work when they are at school or in bed because I work from home so its easy to manage around them.
