Tell us about your family:

Married to Hector since Sept 2001 and have two beautiful daughters Bailey (nearly 7) and Savana (3 ½)What did you do before coming up with your business idea and how was it making the transition?

Before running my own business worked as a Marketing Manager in London and then became a Primary School Teacher in Hertfordshire

When did you launch?

Just under 7 years ago

How did you get started?

Lots and lots of practice with alginate with Bailey as my willing guninea pig to start off but soon learnt that she could barter for chocolate buttons!

What research did you do before launching?

Looked on the internet to see what was already available and also chatted to local mums, visited toddler groups and the NCT

How have you funded the business?

Used my own money.

How do you promote your business? What has worked best?

Mainly the website, do lots of networking, facebook, some advertising and just launched our own blog.

What has worked well about your business?

Listening to my clients has enabled me to grow the business to where it is today to the point that I now offer low cost entry postitions back into the work force.

What has been your biggest challenge so far?

Meeting the demand of products, which is growing daily.

How have you dealt with it?

I am still dealing with demand, it is exhausting and also very exciting, I have recently secured the backing of SEEDA a government funded group who help new businesses in the area too.

How do you fit in work with the family?

My youngest Savan now goes to school full-time weds – fri so I use these three days to do the bulk of my work . Both of my girls are in bed by 7 in the evening so I catch up one emails, facebook then. Saturday is a family day.

What advice would you give to someone else wanting to work in this area?

The unique part about any position in our business is that once you pay your joining fee – that is it. All materials, frames etc are funded and provided by myself and you are paid a commission for each piece you create.
