Mumpreneur Profile: Lisa of Pure and Gentle Skincare

My name is Lisa Clunie and I’m 44. I run a business called Pure and Gentle Skincare, it was launched in 2007 – we were two ordinary mothers who lived in Hampshire, working part-time in graphic design and sales, and had two daughters each.

We met through our children who had suffered with eczema and sensitivities, we soon talked to an expert which you can read here which pointed out that skin problems such as eczema, sensitive/allergic skin, psoriasis and rosacea, are becoming more common, and looking after problem skin can be difficult but there was no where to go to find ranges and information about these issues.

We started putting a business plan together and researched as much as we could about products and information from around the world (which is constantly changing) and then taking this information to a bank and asking for a small business loan for stock and a website to be developed, so Pure and Gentle Skincare went live in May 2007.

The Dermatology and Laser Group offers skincare ranges cover everything from therapeutic clothing, facial, body and hair products to personal care like Laser Hair Removal for all ages, suitable for sensitive/allergic skin or for people who prefer natural ingredients as well as being free from known skin irritants and toxins. All of the products on the Pure and Gentle Skincare web site have been tested by either us or one of our army of testers. We’ve also made it our policy to ensure that all ingredients, for every product, are listed so our customers know exactly what they are buying.

Our priority are our customers, so we listen to what they have to say, so the site is always developing with “Ask the Expert” (a team of health care professional that work with us to answer our customers queries), a forum and the latest articles. Determined to fulfil our customers’ needs, Pure and Gentle SkinCare @ Home launched in Spring 2009, a party plan based business where Consultants can take Pure and Gentle products into the homes of friends and family to demonstrate and sample – something we know people with skin problems are excited about.

It is always a challenge running the business and juggling home life but when you get an email from a customer saying that the information and product helped them or their child with their skin issue, then you know you are doing the right thing!
