Workingmums.co.uk is delighted to announce TV presenter Fiona Phillips will be the keynote speaker at the first Workingmums.co.uk Live event in March.

The free event, sponsored by Deloitte, will be held at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London, from 10am-5pm on Tuesday 8th March, the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, and will celebrate women’s achievements in the workplace and give practical advice on overcoming any barriers to their progress.

Mums who are looking to return to the workplace or change jobs will find all the information and advice they need at the event. It will provide a one-stop shop where mums can meet family friendly employers, find flexible job opportunities, and get advice on being self employed, starting a business or franchise and retraining.

In addition to Fiona Phillips’ speech on balancing work and family life, there will be a number of keynote speakers heading up various workshops during the day which cover everything from starting a business and flexible working to tax credits. They include Tom Lewthwaite, a partner at Deloitte, Kate Grussing, founder of Sapphire Partners, and Sarah Jackson, Chief Executive of Working Families.

Fiona Phillips gave up her job as co-presenter of GMTV after finding herself exhausted from having to balance the demands of a challenging early morning job with looking after her parents, both of whom developed Alzheimer’s Disease, and being a mum to two small children. She has just published her autobiography, Before I Forget, which details her parents’ illness and describes why she felt the need to leave GMTV.

She says: “I am delighted to be speaking at Workingmums.co.uk Live. Finding the right balance between work and family life is a very personal decision and it is up to each individual to make their own choice about what suits them best. Events like this will help a great deal to open up the possibilities for working mums, who often face very difficult decisions about how they deal with all the many demands made on them as mothers, daughters, partners and workers.”

Gillian Nissim, founder of Workingmums.co.uk, said: “We are really excited about Workingmums.co.uk Live and to have Fiona Phillips as a lead speaker. It will be a unique event, bringing experienced professional women face to face with family friendly employers who can provide the kind of flexibility they need to balance work and family issues. There will also be experts at hand to give advice on everything from employment law to childcare.”

Tom Lewthwaite, who leads Deloitte’s Working Parents & Carers Network, said: “We’re delighted to be sponsoring this event. More and more of my colleagues are seeing the benefits that flexible working brings to them and our business. We believe that parenthood makes our people well rounded and great role models in the wider world. If you’re happy at work, with a sensible work-life balance, you’ll achieve more. We fully appreciate the benefits a diverse working force can bring and are pleased to accommodate more requests than ever; and to fly the flag for this way of working.”
