Libby Hill from Small Talk Speech & Language therapy is delighted to have won an award for ‘outstanding’ in the innovation category from the Lichfield area Community and Learning Partnership. As part of their review of what they have achieved, they decide to celebrate with an award ceremony. The C & LPs are to be disbanded but as Angela Newbold, area co-ordinator asserted, ‘It isn’t a time to be miserable, it’s a time to look at what we did achieve …… and we had an absolute ball’.
Small Talk have been a significant part of the activities of the past 2 years in the Children’s Centres. They have run Small Talkers groups to prepare 3 and 4 year olds for school, Teeny Talkers Groups for 2 year olds, signing groups, childminder training and an exciting, innovating project with school children with speech, language and communication problems.
‘We have had a great time and have been privileged to meet and work with so many lovely children and their families’, reports Libby, ‘I wasn’t expecting a reward so I am both surprised and tremendously honoured. It was actually a team effort with Nicky Wilson. and Franky Shepperson running the Lichfield area groups alongside me.
