When you have children, the career you had previous doesn’t always fit in with your lifestyle or you may not want to return to the same job. If you do not have any skills you could turn into a family friendly business then why not retrain. Here are 3 ideas on what you could retrain as.

  1. Teaching Assistant. This is an ideal job if you have school age children as the hours are usually school hours with the holidays off too.You do not actually need any entry level qualifications to start working in a school as a TA but most like you to be working towards an NVQ. Finding a paid position can be quite difficult but one way around this is to volunteer. It gives you hands on experience as well as the chance to see if it suits you without full commitment. A CRB check will need to be completed prior to you starting.
  2. Fitness Instructor. Great retraining idea as you can choose when you want to work. Many people like to exercise at different times of the day so you can fit classes in around your family commitments. There are also lots of different areas you can train in to add variety to your business too.
  3. Childminder. This fits in perfectly with a young family as you can be there to look after your own children as well as earning money from looking after other peoples too. You need to be registered and complete training prior to starting childminding. Here is some more information on the training which is required.
