National award for small Manchester business

22 December 2012 No Comment

All of the efforts of a Manchester-based company were rewarded this week when their nappies were awarded a Bronze Mother & Baby award.

Baba+Boo, based in Worsley, manufacture their own cloth nappies and were up against a number of large national companies for the accolade. The company picked up a Bronze award in the Best Reusable Nappy category at a ceremony at the Hilton Mayfair Hotel in London on Wednesday evening.

Eve Bell, managing director of Baba+Boo said: “We were over the moon to be recognised alongside some of the biggest names in cloth nappies. It means even more because the award was decided on the basis of user testing. That means real mums rate our nappies as among the best on the market.”

Baba+Boo, which celebrated its third birthday last month, has continued to expand despite the economic downturn. Its nappies are now sold by agents in 12 countries worldwide, as well as in the UK through its website.

“My idea for the business came from wanting to save money for my family,” continues Eve. “I was shocked at how much cloth nappies cost and, as a former buyer, knew I could develop a quality product which would be much easier on the purse strings. I’m so pleased that real mums agree.”

The company has gone from strength to strength this year and has recently moved from being run in Eve’s dining room to having a small office. It has also launched a party plan scheme following feedback from customers who wanted to be able to sell its products to their friends and family.

The brand new autumn/winter range of nappies, t-shirts and other accessories was also launched last week.
