Mumpanel has recruited entrepreneur Gillian Nissam to the judging panel of its first-ever mum innovation initiative, which is seeking new ideas from mums for products and services that will enhance the lives of the nation’s families – or ideas that can improve on existing ones. It will take the cream of the crop to some of the UK’s top brands, giving mums the opportunity to turn their idea into reality.

Gillian joins a  panel of experts which includes: Soreen Managing Director Paul Tripp; Inventor and Founder of baby product innovators Brother Max, Jonathan Gold; Founder of MumPanel Lynne Barcoe; and Blogger Nickie O’Hara.

The initiative, which is part of a bigger campaign to make mum’s voices heard by the nation’s brands, called the Big Mum Opinion, has already received over 3,000 entries. But you have until 10 May 2013 to take part.

The desire to improve the quality of life for fellow mums around the world has been the motivation behind many great female innovations, from the food mixer, dishwasher and sewing machine to disposable nappies, Scotch Guard, and teabags.

MumPanel Founder, Lynne Barcoe, said this had motivated the initiative: “When you have children, you are often thinking of ways to improve life for them and your whole family. Mums are natural innovators, but often don’t have the time or the opportunity to progress their great ideas. We know this from the insight work we do with mums, and we want to change that.

“Mums from all backgrounds are welcome to take part – from those already working on inventions to those with no previous experience who just think they have and excellent idea. All we ask is that the idea demonstrates a contribution to the improvement of a better quality of family life. It’s really exciting and we have already seen some brilliant ideas coming through,” Barcoe said.

Judges will select the best ideas from all the entries and MumPanel, which counts brands such as BBC, Kelloggs and Organix as customers, will work with the overall winner to refine their idea, ready to take to the nation’s brands.

Mums who don’t have an invention or innovation up their sleeve can still get involved. MumPanel’s Big Mum Opinion is open to all parents and is a real opportunity to have a say about family-focused products and services. Mums’ views and opinions will be fed back to brands hopefully improving the products and services they are developing and the marketing campaigns they are planning.

All those who take part in the Big Mum Opinion 2013 will be entered into a substantial prize draw to win one of three bundles of prizes totalling around GBP1,500. The bundles include prizes for all the family from a car seat to board games, shopping vouchers to luxury chocolates.

The winning business idea will receive a GBP150 shopping voucher as well as the chance to get their idea in front of some of the most powerful business leaders and marketers in the UK.
