Did you know that The Children and Families Bill, which contains the Shared Parental Leave reforms, passed last week from the House of Commons to the House of Lords. Maternity Action has been campaigning throughout the progress of the bill to get the best deal for parents. Their blog explains that as a result of campaigning, the Minister for Employment, Jo Swinson, gave a commitment to develop ACAS guidance on breastfeeding on return to work. This is of particular importance to women forced back to work early for financial reasons as well as those seeking to share leave.
The campaign group has also sought a vital amendment to protect the right to return to the same job after maternity, paternity and shared parental leave. The Government’s proposals, currently subject to consultation, will seriously disadvantage parents seeking to exercise the flexibilities contained in the new Shared Parental Leave arrangements.
