Women may be half the population but, even in these more enlightened times, they are responsible for less than a third of self-employed businesses.
According to figures from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitoring Report, only 32 per cent of entrepreneurial activity in the UK is carried out by women, yet there are many business opportunities available to them including franchising which offers an additional support of a well-known brand as well as the flexibility of being self-employed.
The number of women in franchising has steadily increased in recent years, along with the number of franchise concepts that suit women who prefer to work from home.
You can find out more about franchising at The British Franchise Exhibition taking place at Manchester Central on 21 & 22 June 2013. Speak to franchise businesses as well as attend seminars all in one go. Admission on the door is £10, however visitors can gain FREE admission by using the promotional code WIF when you register on the website.
This year there will be more franchise opportunities for women at the event than ever before. The exhibition will include a variety of businesses with sectors covering food and drink, property, retail, home improvement, finance amongst many others. Some of the successful franchises present will include McDonald’s, Plug and Play, Platinum Property Partners and Dublcheck.
McDonald’s is exclusively holding open day sessions on both days at Manchester this year. The Friday 21 June session will solely focus on female recruits. McDonald’s is dedicated to this cause and actively encourages women into franchising with them.
The Creation Station will be hosting the free Children’s Activity Centre, where those with family responsibilities can bring their children along and a partner so that they can explore what is on offer in the arts and crafts department, whilst the prospective entrepreneur can explore elsewhere at the franchise exhibition.
The extensive free conference programme at The British Franchise Exhibition will cover a vast range of topics, giving advice for those who want an introduction to franchising, or high level investment, or even to franchise a business. Joanna Dennis, Franchise Development Director at Rosemary Bookkeeping will be one of the speakers, on the subject ‘Growing your own business’.
Designated areas of the exhibition such as the Finance and Careers Clinic will also allow visitors to speak to advisors. Experts at the Finance Clinic will be on-hand to discuss any financial queries or worries in confidence, as well as the chance to go through the all important business plan to secure financial funding. The Careers Clinic will help those who may need some guidance in the next stage of their career, whatever the situation such as facing retirement, redundancy or starting a family.
The Real Franchise Stories is a great way to hear first hand accounts of people who have been in the same position before, and are now successful franchisees. The panel will tell their personal experiences of the challenges they faced, handy tips and advice, as well as the benefits of becoming a franchisee.
The British Franchise Exhibition is the only exhibition in the North West that has been accredited by the British Franchise Association (bfa). This means that all exhibitors have following the bfa’s code of ethics, so visitors can have full confidence in the businesses at the event.
