Do you need a day off? Mums spend a great deal of time occupied with the welfare of others. But when do they get to relax and spend some proper quality time doing things they enjoy? It’s important to take a break and re-fuel once in a while, but mums often find it difficult to give themselves permission to do something that is just for them. Big Sunday is a fully facilitated day of relaxation and self-expression run by mums for mums, to refuel body and mind with good food, inspiring workshops and pampering treatments.
The event follows NICE guidelines to boost mental health, by offering a break from childcare, an opportunity to connect and share experiences and ideas with other mums, to be creative, to exercise, eat well, relax and rejuvenate.
The all-day event in Brighton on 17th November, 2013 focuses specifically on all the emotional and physical needs of mothers. Attendees have the chance to book mini-pamper treatments, yoga & relaxation sessions or life coaching, art or writing workshops, all included in the mode st ticket price. Also included is the use of a creche for babies and pre-school children and a healthy lunch.
Local family centric businesses and organisations will be exhibiting until 5pm when the day ends. There will also be the opportunity to enter a raffle and win prizes including a From The Seed aromatherapy back neck & shoulder massage, a Red Tent Therapy massage, Delta Force Paintball Family tickets, day vouchers at David Lloyd Leisure.
Despite living in a seemingly parent-centric society, in reality there are not many opportunities for women to explore openly and honestly, without fear of judgement, their experiences as mothers. Maggie Gordon-Walker, Mothers Uncovered director and creator of the event says:
‘Many mothers we spoke to felt there was no opportunity to express their feelings in a structured, creative environment.’
The first Big Sunday ran in November 2012 at The Brighton Youth Centre, generating positive feedback.
What a wonderful way to bring together a community of mothers
Christmas came early for mums
Women need other mothers to support, share and celebrate the joys and trials of motherhood
This event was like hitting the reset button. As a mum it’s so wonderful to receive and so rare. I have learned so much and feel refreshed and inspired.
This is an amazing opportunity for women to learn, share and feel good about being a mother.
The event is in partnership with Mothers Uncovered (a project for the Livestock charity) and is partly funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the Sussex Community Foundation.
Sunday 17th November, at Brighton Pre-Prep School, Eastern Road, Brighton.
Early Bird tickets are available until the day before for £20 (+ booking fee) or £10 concessions.
