Make staying active a family affair this winter. Whether you’re a mum, aunt, grandmother, godmother or friend, there’s nothing quite like getting everyone together and heading off on a winter adventure.
Fortunately, there’s plenty to keep you occupied, whatever the weather. You may have put away the picnic basket, locked up the garden toys and store away the summer clothing, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to be packed away too. Instead, look for great ways to keep everyone active and happy this season.
A walk in the woods – it can be difficult to get kids out for a walk in the woods, but winter is actually a great time for outdoor activities. With leaves on the floor and the promise of a hot chocolate at the local café or when you get home, bundle them up in wellies, coats, woolly hats and gloves, give them a stick and a ball and get them outside. Get them to build a den for themselves – and then one for the hedgehogs; send them off to jump out from behind the trees and hold a competition to find the scariest jump, collect holly, mistletoe and other greenery for Christmas decorations, or just let them stomp about it the puddles. Be prepared for this adventure by ensuring you have your wellies and walking trousers at the ready. There are variety of walking trousers for women offered at great prices.
Go ice-skating – plenty of places open temporary ice rinks during the winter months, and you may be lucky enough to live close to a good indoor rink. Ice skating is perfect winter fun – really good for fitness, and creates some great memories along the way. Make a day of it by adding a bit of shopping, a trip to the cinema or lunch and make sure you take plenty of photographs.
Visit a winter market – these are great for families, with lots of stalls, activities and entertainment. Many towns that are twinned with European towns hold a themed market, and there are enormous market events in central areas in cities across the UK. Buy some unusual Christmas presents, try some new food or just enjoy the Christmas spirit.
Dress warm and comfortable for all these events, but there is nothing wrong with a little bit of style. There are comfortable women’s jackets and women’s coats that look great and are practical too, like this Cotton Traders long padded coat. Bright colours, fur-lined hoods, handy pockets and great tailoring help to make you look and feel great, and accessorise with hats, scarves and gloves for extra warmth and style, wherever you’re hanging out with the family this winter – great winter fun.
