National Awards Highlights Achievements of UK Workforce

Nicola Dawes - low resFormer director of Events at the US Whitehouse, Laura Schwartz has commended inspirational professionals who have  been announced as winners in Pitman Training’s Super Achievers Awards 2014 for their outstanding achievements in the last 12 months.

With the highest number of entrants received for this years’ awards, there was tough competition in each of the categories which included Working Mum of the Year; Martina Mercer and Business Newcomer of the Year; Nicola Dawes

Highlighting the reason why the winners were selected, Laura Schwartz, said: “The calibre of those shortlisted in the awards was of a phenomenal standard. He winners in each category are very deserving and have shown great perseverance to work towards fulfilling their dream career. They are all very inspiring and determined individuals.”

Martina Mercer, a York based mumpreneur was awarded the title for Working Mum of the Year, following her sheer strength and determination to push herself, after her divorce at the age of 26, a single parent left in thousands of pounds worth of debt, to utilise the skills gained during her degree. Martina set up her own blog and began to build a name for herself as a leading business copywriter and journalist, and also launch ‘The Consumer Voice’ to support thousands of consumers across the country.

Marion Lowrence of Martina’s achievement and the reason she was chosen as the winner: “Being a single parent, working and studying and succeeding so well against the odds shows such strength of character.  Martina now has a fantastic career ahead of her.  I am sure her positivity and passion for wanting to achieve has paid off and Martina is a true role model for other working Mums.”

The Business Newcomer of the Year Title was awarded to Nicola Dawes; a Guildford based mumpreneur, who set  up the Charity Stripey Stork, to support parents struggling to provide for their children: after trying to find a good home for the baby items her family no longer needed, it soon became clear to Nicola that there was a need for items to support mums with babies and small children in the local area and so she set about founding the innovative charity. In the first three months of operating Stripey Stork has donated over 100 items to 41 local families.

Laura Schwartz, one of the high profile judges, who worked her way up the White House from answering phones to become Director of Events confirmed why she felt Nicola was a worthy winner by stating; “Nicola is a self-starter, working with the most knowledgeable people to find the people to help.  Her philosophy is a smart philosophy discussing the difference of a hand out vs. hand up.  She obviously has a smart business mind that combines with her heart to make and impact and be successful even without outright financial backing.  Very impressive!”

In addition to national recognition, each of the winners will also receive an engraved award, £500 cash and a Self and Career development Pitman Training course of their choice.
