We met when we studied for our CIPD Qualifications (HR Qualifications) in 2000 and bonded through drinking and partying! We lost touch for 10 years and when we reconnected through LinkedIn discovered that we’d both married and each had two sons of similar ages! We were both looking for our next career move to be child friendly so we decided to go it alone and set up Green Light HR Solutions!
Our youngest sons were babies when we started planning, so we would meet at a park to discuss the business whilst the older kids were playing together! We wrote a business plan to focus on what we needed to achieve, a friend built us a website and facebook page, we got our first piece of work and we were ready to go!
We work with small businesses, and Nurseries in particular, and it’s lovely to get to know the businesses and staff who occasionally need HR support but do not need a dedicated HR staff. We enjoy helping our clients to resolve those niggly staffing matters which have been keeping them awake at night. We can come into the business with some independence yet sympathetic to the culture and values in order to achieve what is needed, be that a new Policy on Sickness Absence, dealing with a disciplinary case or recruiting a new member of the team.
Green Light HR Solutions started in June 2014 so it is still very early days for Julie and I. We are working very hard to expand our client base, exploring all possible opportunities, putting ourselves out there – there’s a lot to do and it’s hard to know what to focus on one day to the next! We’re both getting very good at plate spinning!!
Our aim is for the business to grow organically as our children grow. It is important to both of us to spend time with our boys now that they are little and still need us. We will grow and expand the business as they grow and want to become more independent.
