Review: MUM’s Party Book

We’ve just been to a friend’s birthday party for her ten year old. Two children were sick during the party … thanks Norovirus! What’s your worst party nightmare?

For me, this year, after arranging parties for the nine year old in November, then two in the same week in March – my 6 and 13 year old have birthdays two days apart – I have vowed to take a week off work in the run up to party time! There is so much to organise!

To help with this I was sent a copy of MUM’s Party book to review. I think this might have been designed for someone who is more organised than me, or perhaps more party-focussed.

It is described as: “Spice up your social life with this stunning, must-have entertaining journal for this season and beyond.  A gorgeous, chic and stylish party journal – in stunning metallic silver (lizard-effect), silver gilt-edged pages and ribbon markers – this is a real treat, perfect for ladies who love food, entertaining friends and family and collecting treasured memories.  Be the hostess with the mostest with this lovely journal, create menu plans, recipe ideas, party themes and ideas, guest lists, table plans, gift ideas, RSVPs and plenty of space to diarise upcoming and previous dinner parties, celebrations, weddings, christenings, birthdays, BBQs and any other party you have attended, to provide inspiration and ideas for your future events.  Also makes a lovely self-indulgent party-diary keepsake.”

Overall, it’s great – a page per party, with space for food, activities, party bag idea, a list for guests, who has RSVPd, the gift they gave and whether you have sent a thank you letter. It saves you writing everything on scraps of paper … and we always fail to link up the scrap of paper with the thank you letters if we manage to write them at all.

There are pages further on in the book for more grown up affairs, with ‘what I wore’ and space for a table plan. Again, I suspect this book’s true owner is slightly more glamorous and organised than me. Even with 3 children I think I might struggle to organise enough parties to warrant using this. It is, as described, lusurious and gorgeous, and if you can find the time it will make a great place for memories of parties.

MUM’s Party book costs around £16,99 at time of writing from Amazon or direct from

Disclosure: I was sent this book.
