Mumpreneur profile: Emma of Bohohemp

Emma-Boho-Hemp-Portrait- (004)Your Name and Age: Emma aged 44 years

Tell us about your family I have 2 children aged 5 and 9 and we live with my present partner

What did you do before coming up with your business idea and how was it making the transition? I’m an aromatherapist and reflexologist and loved it – still do some when I’ve got the time! After having second child and separating from their dad I thought I needed to provide more of a regular income so thought about setting up my own business – crazy I know – if I only knew then what I know now – anyway it was quite an easy transition and a gradual one as well but I chose to do it that way

When did you launch? Nov 2011

How did you get started? Started with an epiphany moment!

What’s your favourite thing about running your own business Being my own boss

What’s the thing you least enjoy about running your own business Accounts

What has worked well about your business? My determination and commitment to the business

What’s been your biggest business mistake?  How did you deal with it? I bought far too much stock at the beginning – I had to be creative 🙂

How do you fit in work with the family? Is your partner supportive of your business? I work within school hours, after bedtime and weekends when my ex has the children. My present partner is very supportive of what I’m trying to generate. He supports me all the time. I’m very fortunate.

Are you working towards a financial goal for your business? My first goal is to pay myself a wage!

Have you had your ‘I’ve made it’ moment?  Tell us about it.  If not when do you think it will come No I haven’t and if that thought ever passes through my mind at anytime in the future – I will be worried as there is only one way to go from there?

Where do you hope to be in five years time? To have established my brand as the place to go to in the UK for funky affordable hemp clothing. My dream is to source our hemp in the UK and get it manufactured here – so with a view to setting up own factory and stimulate the growth of industrial hemp in the UK
