Book Review: Start Your Dream Business

Are you thinking of starting a business? In order to succeed, I think you need a mix of passion and practicality, and you’ll get just that in Start Your Dream Business: Secrets of Successful and Happy Entrepreneurs.
I was interviewed for this book by author Sarah Wade, and it is really interesting to read the stories of the other people that she has interviewed, from Christie, a new milliner who used to be a physiotherapist, to Chai, former doctor turned care home owner who retrained as a banker on his path to …

How smart is your pricing?

How do you price your products or services? If you are like most small business owners there will be a certain element of guess work, a bit of ‘what are my competitors charging’ and some ‘how much does it cost me?’ There is a lot more to pricing than this, and The Psychology of Price: How to use price to increase demand, profit and customer satisfaction can help.
The book has my ideal structure, incorporating explanations, examples and exercises. Written with a sense of humour, this book uses the example of the …

Book Review: Anjum’s Indian Vegetarian Feast

I’m a big fan of Indian food, and love recipe books on the subject. Anjum’s Indian Vegetarian Feast one is a real winner. Anjum takes the best of Indian cookery, provides recipes for the classics, and brings in some fab new ideas with a twist such as coconut french toast, or Keralan banana pancakes with peanut butter or squash, butterbean and mushroom cobbler. Use the book to learn how to make your own breads and perfect boiled rice too. The photos are well worth a mention: illustrations for every recipe make …

What questions would you like answered in a vodcast about bedtime stories? We’ve got a panel of experts recording a video for www.familyfriendlyworking.co.uk next week and it would be great to get them chatting about the aspects of bedtime stories that interest you.
Personally, I’m interested in when children stop wanting a bedtime story, and the challenges of juggling stories for three children of very different ages. What about you? Please leave your questions in the comments box and I’ll get as many as possible answered.

Book Review: Divorce and Separation The Essential Guide

It isn’t easy going through the process of separation and divorce, so having a handy guide can really help you understand the steps that you may need to go through. In Divorce and Separation – The Essential Guide, Linda Jones has created a clear and simple guide that anyone will find useful, particularly if you have children.
I found the chapter on talking to your children particularly strong, and Jones has come up with an excellent list of further reading and resources. In a slim book like this it can be …

Book Review: Food for Health

Have you had health problems and wondered if different food might help? If so, read on and find out about my experiences of Food for Health: The Essential Guide.
Heart disease, mental health, diabetes, arthritis: this book takes a very different approach to many other ‘healthy eating’ books and is packed with tips relating to specific medical conditions. Best Books for Christmas Gifts for Small Boys

I’ve been checking out some new and some classic children’s books. These have been tested out on my boys who are 3.5 years  and nearly 7 years old. They are both big book lovers, and these books have been very popular – I’d recommend any of them as Christmas gifts.

To start with, we’ve been reading some books that have been reissued to celebrate Quentin Blake’s 80th birthday. We love the quirky style of Quentin Blake, and Jack and Nancy, his second book ever, is a great example of a fabulous …
