Mumpreneur profile: Katie of Great Little Rewards #mumsinbiz @glrewards

Katie_TyndaleHi, I’m Katie Tyndale, aged 47.

I have been with my husband, John, since we met at University and we have two gorgeous sporty boys aged 14 & 9 and two pets!  Life is always busy with lots of sports and rough and tumble going on. We recently moved into a house in need of refurbishment and we started at a great pace but then all the hard work was ruined by a plumbing leak. After searching for help with a blocked drain in London we got it sorted but the damage was done and so we had to start all over again!

I created GLR in 2011, having spotted a gap in the market for unusual, high quality engaging pocket money priced stationery and toys.  As a young girl I enjoyed scouring London for unusual stickers and erasers and have continued this passion for little collectibles to build my business.

I was working four days a week in London in a high-pressure role when I had the idea that has changed my life. I remember being so passionate about providing high quality, engaging products that would have a positive impact on pupils’ learning – so Great Little Rewards was born. I won Mumpreneur of the year in 2012-13 and was also a finalist in the Business Parent of the Year competition – London & the South East – Mum and Working Awards 2016.

Over time, with so many products available, we have expanded our range to include soft toys, stationery and also games that we know children love.  Many of our products are not available on the UK high street, coming directly from the USA or being made especially for us in Asia.

Our biggest compliment to date was securing the National Contract for the award winning group in 2015.  Our team work hard to create a range of rewards and stationery items especially for Explore. The feedback from the Centres and their members is always really positive and we love working with them.

In April 2016 I left my job to focus on expanding Great Little Rewards. In the summer of 2016 I had an idea to give like-minded mums and others the opportunity to share in my success and to run/develop their own business in their local community using the GLR ‘Shop in a Box’. It is also ideal for PTA’s and other Fundraising groups.  Everyone who starts their own business with GLR is a recognized GLR Partner.

I really hope that, by sharing my vision with individuals (and fund-raising groups), I can create a brand that everyone knows and loves as the ‘go-to shop for pocket money priced rewards’.
