Parents in Business: Natasha of MumKnowsBest recipe site

Your Name and Age: My name is Natasha Corrett and I am 36 years old.

Tell us about your family: It is my husband and I, and our 2 year old son Rudy.

What did you do before coming up with your business idea and how was it making the transition?

I used to have the business Honeslty Healthy before my son was born and so it was a natural graduation of what I had previously done. It was healthy recipes and now it is healthy recipes that are more focused on families.

When did you launch?

I started very slowly and quietly in October 2018.

How did you get started?

I set up a website and went from there! The hotel menu was a gradual idea which stemmed from staying in hotels with my son when he was weaning.  There were no healthy food options and I had to go into the kitchen and ask them to make food for him that wasn’t pizza, pasta or chicken and chips.

What’s your favourite thing about running your own business?

I love the flexibility of it.

What’s the thing you least enjoy about running your own business?

You never stop thinking or having to do something, and so weekends are never your own!

What’s been your biggest business mistake?  How did you deal with it?

I have had many mistakes, but I would say not employing the right person for the right job is always a big mistake.

How do you fit in work with the family?

I  juggle like most mums. I work when my son is at nursery, which is 2 mornings a week and then work again when he sleeps at lunch time. My business idea is growing at the rate of a snail as I just don’t have much time, but I know he will be in school in a couple years so will have plenty of time on my hands to grow then. My baby is only small once I keep telling myself!

Are you working towards a financial goal for your business?

My goals have changed since having Rudy. As long as I can pay my bills and have a couple of nice holidays a year I am happy.

Have you had your ‘I’ve made it’ moment?  Tell us about it. If not when do you think it will come

When my 4 books were published, and I was on the cover of You magazine. That was pretty cool!
