Ideal Earning Options Outside the 9-5

A 9 to 5 job can give your life structure and routine. It’s the way a lot of people prefer to work, and it’s really the only option for a lot of jobs. However, if you want to make some extra income, it means that you need to be able to fit it around your 9 to 5 hours. You either need to be able to do some extra work in the early morning or in the evening once you’re done with your day job. Fortunately, there are some great ways to earn outside of your usual hours, and you don’t have to work as a courier or rideshare driver.

Give Driving Lessons

Do you think of yourself as a good driver? If you reckon you’re a master behind the wheel, teaching others to drive can be a great way to earn an extra income. You can be in charge of your hours, and many people want to have their driving lessons after work. You can take a driving instructor training course to learn everything that you need to know to teach others to drive. There’s the possibility of working for an established company, but you could also work for yourself. This will give you more control over your hours.

Do Your Day Job at Home

An easy way to earn some money on the side is to do your day job after you’ve left work. If you have a skill that you can offer on a freelance basis, it could be a great way to start earning more. You might use freelancing websites or set up your own site and social media pages to find clients. Before you do this, make sure you check your employment contract. Some employers won’t be happy with you offering freelance services if it makes you their competition.

Tutor or Mentor

Another way to use your existing skills could be to tutor or mentor people. You might have a degree or a lot of experience in a particular subject, which you can then use to offer your expertise to students. As well as tutoring, which you could do for anything from primary school children to university students, you could consider mentoring. Professional mentoring can help people to achieve their full potential. You might mentor someone who is growing their career or perhaps someone who is trying to make it in business.

Look After Pets (or Children)

For a way to make money in the evenings and weekends, consider pet sitting – or perhaps babysitting. If you love pets, you could offer your services to check in on people’s pets at home, walk their dogs, or even care for pets in your own home. Childcare is another option if you have experience with children and can show that you’re a trustworthy person. A lot of people need someone reliable to help look after their children on evenings and weekends.

Working a 9 to 5 job won’t stop you from earning an extra income on the side. You might also want to consider setting up a passive income stream.
