Seven outstanding business women were honoured at a prestigious awards event hosted by broadcaster Alison Walker at Oran Mor, in Glasgow’s west end. The Scottish Women in Business (SWIB) inaugural ‘Celebrating Women’ Awards, sponsored by law firm Turcan Connell, initially presented five awards that had been chosen from a shortlist of 15 finalists.

The Communicator Award went to Vash Naidoo from Compliance Scotland and Vash Naidoo Coaching. The Connector Award was presented to Ann-Maree Morrison from Stirling based Labels4Kids. The Collaborator Award went to Managing Director Simone Lockhart from national recruitment company, Search Consultancy. The Innovator Award was received by Alyth, (Perth and Kinross) based sisters Olivia Robertson & Claire Cooper from The Home Straight & Elli Assisted Living Technology Ltd and The Young Star Award was awarded to Jenny McCreary – Sew Confident, based in Glasgow, delivering workshops all over Scotland.  (Quotes in Notes to editors)

SWIB President, Laura McKinnon explained, “SWIB set out to create a platform that would highlight Scotland’s many talented women in business and we felt this would be the perfect way to commemorate SWIB’s 25th anniversary.

“It has been an enormous success We received a high volume of applications and of a very high calibre. Excellent judges, terrific sponsors and a very quick sell out success. I am so thrilled. Today has been enlightening with so many inspiring stories from women in business, and has made me appreciate what a wealth of talent we have in Scotland.”

Two additional awards were presented. The Celebrity Spotlight Award was given to a delighted Shirley Spear from the world renowned The Three Chimneys restaurant and five star rooms in Skye. This was a public vote that ran exclusively on social media and Shirley was one of 20 high profile successful business women in Scotland.

The Spirit of SWIB Award which was nominated and judged by the present and past presidents of scottish women in business was awarded to Liz Taylor from Taylormade Marketing for best demonstrating SWIB’s core values of communicate, connect, collaborate and her dedication to Scottish Women in Business.

Judging of the five main awards was carried out by an illustrious judging panel consisting of Linda Urquhart OBE – Chair of Morton Fraser, Edith Adam – Managing Director of French Dressing, Annemarie O’Donnell – Chief Executive of Glasgow City Council and Lesley Gilmartin – Business Leader at Badenoch and Clark.

Family Law specialist, Zaynab Al Nasser from the award ceremony’s top sponsor, Turcan Connell, explained “We were delighted to be asked to sponsor SWIB’s first ‘Celebrating Women’ Awards and we are genuinely thrilled it has been such an outstanding success.”
