7 Skills to Happiness Summer Series – Integrity #unimentawrites #7skillsforthefuture #integrity

  by Emma Sue Prince

We live and work in a world where uncertainty and change have become the norm. Even though we have all the information we could possibly want or need at our fingertips, our inability to manage its constant flow into our Smartphones and brains renders it useless. It seems as if we are constantly distracted, overwhelmed and unhappy.

But there are skills that we each have that really can help us to be happy right now. These skills need to become an essential part of our toolkit so that we are well equipped to prosper in our brave new world. We just need to tap into them and strengthen them. All 7 matter and all 7 overlap. In this exclusive series for Family Friendly Working, each week I’ll be looking at a different skill that you can immediately tap into and embrace. I promise you they make a huge difference to you personally, to how you work and to your family.

Integrity

Do you do what you say you are going to do? Do you honour commitments and are you accountable for your actions? You might automatically answer “yes” but these days it is getting easier and easier to cancel things or come up with a reason for not doing something. Integrity is all about building trust and there is no better way to do this than by delivering when we say we will and walking the talk.

If we live with integrity, then we also live aligned to the principles and beliefs we truly value.  In a world where we live with so much uncertainty integrity can be a constant, a harbour in the storm, if you like. And when you are being you, as in your authentic true self, well then you can’t not be happy!

When people know they can count on you, when you know and accept that you are accountable and make choices that resonate with your values and when integrity becomes your compass, decisions are easier, relationships are easier and your reputation, both personal and professional will precede you!

When we live our lives with integrity, it means that we’re always honest, and we let our actions speak for who we are and what we believe in. Integrity is a choice we make, and it’s a choice we must keep making, every moment of our lives.

The happiness bonus? Living a life of integrity means that we never have to spend time or energy questioning ourselves. When we listen to our hearts and do the right thing, life becomes simple. Our life, and our actions, are open for everyone to see, and we don’t have to worry about hiding anything.
