Parents in business: Cheryl of Now is your Time to

Name of Business: Now is your Time – https://www.nowisyourtimeto.com/

Your name: Cheryl Lee

Age:47

How did you get started?  Donna and I met 15 years ago and after being made redundant in April 2018, I decided to set up my own business focusing on delivering talent, leadership and coaching to corporates. I had always wanted to be a life coach and had gained my NLP Master Practitioner Qualification but had a fear about pursuing it further. Then, when my Dad passed away, I realised that life is for living and it was my time to do what I’d always wanted to do. Fortunately, at the same time Donna had an ‘aha moment’ that she wanted to be a coach too and the rest is history…

What has been your biggest challenge so far? How have you dealt with it? Definitely financial.  When we decided to set the business as it was not pre-planned, I have not budgeted for it.  For the first six months setting up we only had one client and had invested our own money to set up.  As I had always been the breadwinner, there were a few months where I did not know how I was going to pay the mortgage and bills. It was challenging for myself and my family and we had to make some big adjustments to our lifestyle and this period was quite stressful. I dealt with it as I have always knew, since we launched Now Is Your Time, that we were and still are on the right path and that if we are spending each day doing what we love and making a difference to people’s lives it would all work out as it was meant too and 19 months later we are still here going from strength to strength.

What has worked well about your business? Focusing on one proportion at a time – we hired our own coach who has mentored us through the last 6 months.  Nail it and scale it is our mantra.  We started with 121 clients and once we nailed that then moved on to set up our group programmes which is now evergreen.

How do you fit in work with the family? Initially we were working long hours and nights so I saw a lot less of my family.  Over time we have worked hard to manage our diaries so they work for us and also our energy levels. Having my own business now allows flexibility and this means I can make more time for my family, going for a coffee with my Mam during the week or walking the dog with my Daughter.  I get to choose when I work which makes for a happier balanced life.

What impact do you want to have?

We are on a mission to impact over 1 million girls and women by 2021 to help them to rediscover their identity so they are living life as their authentic selves and standing in their power.
