Women Find New Prospects in Smart Meter World

There was a time when working in the trades was deemed the ‘man world’ when it came to installation and implementation of gas and electrical services. However, with the advent of Covid-19 restrictions on jobs, more and more women feel energised to undertake the lucrative and growing requirement for engineers by undertaking a smart meter apprenticeships.

Taking the Leap

With many people in England losing or facing a loss of their regular income in 2020, it came as no surprise that women found a drive to not stay at home and instead pursue a new career option.

With a slew of trades professions seeing an increase in female employment throughout the last decade, the new opportunities presented by a green energy apprenticeships saw women’s natural instinct for organization and advancement grow along with the preference of companies to grow a female workforce in areas previously occupied by 95% males.

Age not a Requirement

Apprenticeships are not just for school leavers, with estimates that women in their 50s have taken onboard the challenge and learning.

With the Government backed implementation of smart meters into UK home’s throughout the next year, there has been an outcry for qualified personnel of which there is a shortage to meet the demands imposed. On a fascinating note, more and more engineering advertisements feature women as the image of choice.

This is not so surprising as many clients feel a more sense of ease in a woman performing trade jobs in the home, especially when it comes to the vulnerable. This advertising of trade specific careers is also a positive sign of equality throughout business and a sign that more careers and opportunities for women are being welcomed and appreciated.

2020 has opened up as many doors as it has closed, and with apprenticeships having flexible working patterns the opportunities for more and more women to fit in a new career around a hectic lifestyle means that more and more women are pursuing the requirement for smart meter and green installation specialists to be on call.

The twenties may indeed be the biggest step in advancement for women to make a successful career in a new direction, and with a smart meter apprenticeship they are finding a finer footprint for women to thrive.
