An innovative scheme from insurance company Aviva is giving parents the chance to take off a half day when their child starts school.
In operation since 2016, over 1000 parents have benefitted from the scheme.
Felicity Corrigan who works for Aviva in Norwich says, “Being able to take half a day off for my son’s first day of school is a nice touch. I’m going to take mine at the end of the day so I can be there for pickup and chats about the day.”
The leave doesn’t just apply to primary school. Caroline Hardy who also works at the Norwich office says, “My son is starting secondary school this week and has ADHD. He’s worked so hard to improve his focus but lockdown set that back a bit, so starting a new school this year will be a lot for him to take in. I’m actually taking the other half as holiday so I can drop the kids off and pick them up at the end of the day.”
Danny Harmer, Aviva’s Chief People Officer says, “At Aviva we give our parents time off so that they can be with their children and focus on making the first day a positive memorable experience.”
